چکیده

There are many benefi ts that are brought by sun, such as positive feeling and mood and trigger the production of vitamin D in skin. But giving to the skin an overdose of ultraviolet rays (UV) may be harmful to our bodies and result in premature skin ageing, skin cancers, eye damage and photoimmunosuppression. UV radiation is made up of three types of rays with different wavelength (λ): ultraviolet A (UVA) (λ = 315–380 nm), ultraviolet B (UVB) (λ = 280–315 nm), and ultraviolet C (UVC) (λ = 100–280 nm). The UVA is weaker than UVB but passes further into the skin. Lately, it was defi ned the Near-UV (HEV) light is just beyond the cut-off from the UVA to the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum (380 nm-500 nm), being related directly to the degradation of collagen and elastin resulting in formation of wrinkles and premature aging.

Inorganic UV filters

Nowadays, concern over skin cancer has been growing more and more, especially in tropical countries where the incidence of UVA/B radiation is higher. The correct use of sunscreen is the most efficient way to prevent the development of this disease. The ingredients of sunscreen can be organic and/or inorganic sun filters. Inorganic filters present some advantages over organic filters, such as ph...

In vitro evaluation of the cutaneous penetration of sprayable sunscreen emulsions with high concentrations of UV filters.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible penetration through human skin of organic and inorganic filters contained in sunscreen emulsions packaged in aerosol cans, using an in vitro method. Experiments were carried out on two different types of emulsion: W/Si and W/O. This study was conducted using static diffusion cells (Franz cells). The determination of organic UV filters [Methylen...

A new in-vitro method for determination of Sun Protection Factor

A new in-vitro SPF test method for determining the efficacy of sun care products was proposed and evaluated. The test method is based on UV (Ultra Violet) dosage cumulate response using Gafchromic EBT3 film. In-vitro SPF value of 2 sunscreen standards and 15 commercial products, including sunscreen lotions, BB creams, foundations and sprays with organic and/or inorganic UV filters, were measure...

The Effects of Sunscreen on Cyanobacteria

Ultraviolet-filters found in various manufactured cosmetic products have been detected recently as environmental contaminants at trace concentrations. The effects of these low levels of sunscreen products on cyanobacteria were investigated in this study. Average trends of triplicate conditions in this study suggest that sunscreen causes decreased scytonemin and chlorophyll a production, as well...
